CHILDREN AND PARENT CONSULTATION

I believe that children's flexibility and amazing ability to change and adapt, alongside the immense role of the parents in their lives, create a unique window of opportunity for the therapeutic process when the child or the relationship with him/her are in crisis. Sometimes all we need to do to get on the right track is to change something in the way we regard him/her, communicate with him/her, or see things from his/her point of view. Sometimes we just need to realize what is making him/her behave this way, what he/she is trying to express or to tell us, and we have already done a lot. Sometimes, we can connect to that deep sense of identification with him/her, find out what in him/her reminds us of ourselves, and how that may be the very key to helping him/her out. This may sound simple, but it often requires guidance and an external point of view on the situation. Work and practice are required, alongside a certain encounter with the parent's own “inner child”. However, the potential of early intervention is priceless.

Working with children and their parents is a realm full of hope and unique challenges. In working with kids, it is important to provide for a playful environment, fun and stimulating, where we can seek the child's inner world, learn new ways to interact with him/her, and teach him/her new ways to communicate with us. Also, it is a space for us to search who we are as parents, who we would like to be as such, and how to bridge between the two.
