INTEGRATIVE THERAPY

Integrative therapy is a progressive form of psychotherapy that combines different therapeutic tools and approaches to fit the needs of the individual client.  By combining elements from different schools of psychological theory and research, integrative therapy becomes a more flexible and inclusive approach to treatment than more traditional, singular forms of psychotherapy.

I primarily integrate psycho-dynamic psychotherapy with forms of cognitive behavioral therapy in my work, as I believe the combination works better than each on its own. Psycho-dynamic psychotherapy is a form of depth psychology, the primary focus of which is to reveal the unconscious content of a client's psyche and to analyse his past relationships in order to understand current symptoms and personality patterns. It is also often called psychoanalytic psychotherapy. CBT, however, focuses on cognitive and behavioral patterns and in changing them or learning to address them differently (rather than unconscious content). I believe these two focuses to blend in well together, and I view each as a separate mental system to approach and tackle in therapy.
